When you choose to Sense Touch, by default it is a simple Tap Anywhere.

Three kinds of touch sensors can be limited to be  Inside limited area:

1. A simple Tap
2. Straight swipe
3. Tickle

When you select the Inside limited area mode, you see a new set of Inside > buttons appear. 

These are for you to specify the area in which sensing occurs.

Touching one of those buttons shows a preview of your screen on which you need to draw the boundary of the touchable area.

As you draw on the preview area, you see an outline as you can see here. 

You don't have to close the shape - it will automatically close over to form a solid shape as you can see below.

When you stop drawing the boundary, the area fills in. You can now test tapping within the area or outside to see it working.

If you are unhappy with the area you drew, press the Draw Outline again button.

Three controls have appeared to control a Color overlay. This is a hint that will be shown on the Touchgram page for where to touch.

1. You can use the switch to turn the overlay off so there's no visible hint.
2. The slider lets you adjust the opacity of the hint, so more of the background shows through.
3. There's a little color swatch rectangle above the slider - tapping it lets you pick a different hint color.

The hint color starts automatically generated as a contrasting color with your picture.

When you press the Composer button in the menu, you will see a tree view of a Touchgram.

A new message shows a simple, single page like this.

If you come back to a draft Touchgram after closing the window, you might see a lot more details in the tree.

The Star menu item takes you to the Faves screen which is initially an empty list.

Tapping the tool icon at the bottom shows a few options. If you pick Add samples you will see a list of Touchgram names appear.

The Add Samples will always add any new samples that are not already in your Faves list. New versions of Touchgram regularly include new samples.

Once you can see Touchgrams in the Faves list, you can tap on them and immediately play them or send them, using the toolbar buttons at the bottom of the screen.

Swiping one of the rows left or right reveals buttons you can tap for different actions.

If you choose Remove from faves for any of the samples, you can just add them back again with Add Samples, as described above.

If you have added one of your own compositions or an incoming message to Faves then removing it will forget the original.

One icon on the Composer toolbar pops up a page menu. The top two items let you change the Current page and the bottom one adds a page.

The current Detailed Tree composer view doesn't need the page menu so much - it will be more useful when the coming Visual Composer is added. So most of the time you can ignore the Page menu. 

It's faster to tap the Add Page row at the bottom of the list, if that is visible.

This help page was added in case you are wondering why that weird icon and menu are there.

For historical interest, the first version only let you add pages using the Page menu. The simple Add Page row was a user suggestion to improve usability.

On the expander bar there is a little Close button, a circled-x which only appears in the Expanded view.

This is part of the standard iMessage interface so Touchgram cannot do anything about it.

Be very careful about hitting this Close.

The close will cancel the current message you are editing and drop you back into the normal Transcript view of iMessage.

However, Touchgram remembers where you were at. If you were in the middle of editing a message, the draft you'd created is remembered for this conversation. When you go back into Touchgram, what you created will be there for you.

Note: a fun fact from the early development of Touchgram - we weren't going to cope with this until later. None of the other complex iMessage apps did anything smart - they just lost your message if you accidentally tapped the Close button. As the founder's wife was a beta tester, she was rather upset about losing a Touchgram she'd been working on and insisted that version 1 of Touchgram coped with the close. That's why, from the beginning, Touchgram remembers what you're working on.

An iMessage app appears initially in the space normally taken up by the keyboard, at the bottom of the screen. Apple call this the Compact View. 

Some simple apps do all their work in that compact view, like picking stickers. 

Richer apps like drawing apps and  Touchgram use that space as a starting menu and do most of their work in the Expanded View. 

At any time, you can drag that dividing bar or just tap it to switch between views. If you're in the middle of editing a Touchgram, your work is saved. 

Note that saving currently only remembers the details after you have pressed Save in a detail editor. So if you're halfway through designing a sensor for touches and accidentally collapse back to the menu on the Compact view, you will lose that sensor.

Have a look at the menu by tapping the wrench. In most of the edit screens, like the Goto Page action shown here, it will probably only have one or two options. In the list views, it has many more, which will be explained in future Help posts.

The edit screens are all consistent. The Tools wrench icon is at the bottom between the Cancel and Save buttons. Depending on your phone size, you may have to scroll the window to see these buttons.

On the lists and play windows, the Tools wrench appears on the toolbar at the bottom of the window.
